Training stress is necessary for the body to progress to new levels of fitness and thus new levels of performance. If you are brand new you will see rapid improvements in all 3 sports, usually in the 10-15% range. 80% of your improvement will come from 20% of your workouts, these workouts we will call your key workouts. So if your training for an Olympic race then your duration should be around what it would take you to complete that length of race or a little longer. High intensity days should be done on your low duration days early in the season.
